Humanities Foundation works to increase community understanding of the challenges facing the homeless and ways to aid those in need of safe, decent and affordable housing.
Partnering with other organizations in the community is essential to the mission of the Foundation to increase the impact of its affordable housing practices.
Foundation staff member serves on the Executive Committee for the Mayor’s Council on Homelessness and Affordable Housing, which coordinates efforts to provide affordable housing in the City of Charleston, and also serves on the board of the Lowcountry Continuum of Care Partnership to provide expertise in the development of affordable housing for homeless persons with disabilities.
The Foundation was part of the original planning committee to create what is now known as the Lowcountry Housing Trust and has a staff member who serves on the Trust’s board of directors.
Following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Humanities Foundation staff joined forces with Trident United Way in their efforts to organize housing and services for hurricane evacuees.
In addition to community involvement and partnerships, the Foundation is committed to increasing education and awareness of affordable housing.
