"The number one priority of the foundation is to provide affordable housing to as many low-income individuals and families as possible," Henry said. "The goal is to continue making an impact in the Charleston area while expanding our reach to other areas throughout the Southeast." Since its 1992 founding, Humanities Foundation has been addressing the affordable housing crisis. In addition to its mission to develop affordable housing units, it also provides a range of services for residents and the community, that alleviate problems associated with homelessness and affordable housing. The foundation has developed over 600 rental units of affordable housing -- with another 156 units under construction and 72 units in pre-development -- providing homes for more than 850 low-to-moderate income families, including those with special needs.
