Building Strong Communities Through Partnership: Humanities Foundation & Red Stone Equity Partners

Preserving history while creating affordable homes for Charleston's seniors.

Creating quality affordable housing takes vision, collaboration, and committed partners. Archer School Apartments is a shining example of what can be accomplished when organizations come together with a shared purpose.

Humanities Foundation was proud to partner with Red Stone Equity Partners to transform the historic Henry P. Archer School into a vibrant senior housing community in Charleston's Eastside. Through the use of Low-Income Housing Tax Credits and a collaborative financing approach, this once-vacant landmark now provides 89 affordable apartment homes for adults age 55 and older while preserving an important piece of Charleston's history.

Beyond the restoration of a historic building, Archer School Apartments offers residents access to wellness programs, community spaces, food assistance, and supportive services that help seniors thrive. The project demonstrates how thoughtful investment and strong public-private partnerships can create lasting impact for generations to come.

We are grateful to Red Stone Equity Partners for helping make this transformative community possible and for their commitment to expanding affordable housing opportunities where they are needed most.
