Humanities Foundation Expands 2025 Turkey Day Giveaway to Support Families Facing Rising Food Insecurity

Four community food distribution events aim to meet growing needs across Charleston.

Humanities Foundation is launching its 2025 Turkey Day Giveaway, a series of community food distribution events designed to ensure families across the Lowcountry have a warm Thanksgiving meal during a time of rising food insecurity.

With continued uncertainty around federal SNAP benefits and the increasing cost of groceries, the Foundation remains committed to making sure no one in the community goes hungry during the holidays — or any time of year.

2025 Turkey Day Giveaway Events

Four drive-thru and walk-up events will take place across Charleston:

  • November 13: First Baptist Church of James Island, 1110 Camp Rd., Charleston | 1:30 PM – While Supplies Last

  • November 19: Charleston Police Department Drive-Thru, Brittlebank Park, 181 Lockwood Dr., Charleston | 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM

  • November 21: Holiday Turkey & Food Drive with Eastside Community Development Corporation and South Carolina State University 1890 Research & Extension Center, 1890, 35 Lee St., Charleston | 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM

  • November 24: A Day of Thanks & Giving, CCSD 4 Regional Stadium, 3659 W. Montague Ave., North Charleston | 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM

In partnership with James Doran Company, GrowFood Carolina, Charleston Police Department, Eastside Community Development Corporation, and SC State University 1890 Research & Extension Center, these events will distribute thousands of Thanksgiving meals and grocery items to families across the Lowcountry. More than $25,000 has already been contributed by partners and individual supporters.

“While times are uncertain for many — especially with ongoing changes to food assistance programs — our message remains the same: no one should go hungry,” said Tracy Doran, President and Founder of Humanities Foundation. “We are here to help, with the partnerships and resources needed to meet this growing need.”

Year-Round Food Support Through Marketplace

Beyond Thanksgiving, Humanities Foundation operates the Marketplace Food Pantry Program, serving residents year-round through monthly food distributions at affordable housing communities throughout the Southeast.

Since 2014, Marketplace has distributed over 12 million pounds of food, including more than 30,000 meals in 2025 alone.

“Our Marketplace program allows us to serve families well beyond Thanksgiving,” said Lamar Mowatt, Director of Resident Services and Community Relations. “We’re proud to stand with our partners and donors to ensure residents have access to healthy food all year long.”
