Help Us Keep Families Home to Stay
A ShelterNet fundraiser
This month Humanities Foundation is celebrating Affordable Housing Awareness Month. On May 1st we kicked off our Home to Stay campaign.
Our hope is that this campaign will:
Educate the public on the realities of Affordable Housing and its many benefits to our communities
Educate at risk individuals and families on ways to improve their situation: (enhancing skills and education, employment tips, budgeting tips/classes, financial management tips, financial assistance options) Visit our resources page to learn more.
Will bring the community together in addressing the needs at hand
Will highlight groups in the community that are working together already and show how ShelterNet helps bridge the gaps
As part of the awareness campaign, we are including a fundraiser for our ShelterNet Program. The goal is $20,000, and all monies raised from our community will support our efforts to keep our neighbors in their homes.
Together we can make a difference.
“ShelterNet was a lifesaver for my family and I. Struggling to make ends meet, I found myself in a financial bind due to health and employment issues. ShelterNet provided resources and financial assistance that enabled my family to remain in our home.”
“It takes as little as $300 to protect a family from eviction, but as much as $3000 to rehouse them once they have become unhoused.”
ShelterNet was created in 1995 to provide emergency housing assistance and has helped more than 50,500 people avoid eviction or loss of essential utility services. The fund pays one-time costs such as rental/utility deposits, overdue rent or mortgage payments. ShelterNet receives referrals for financial assistance from over 40 community partners which include social service and mental health agencies, programs for the aging, hospitals, schools, churches, and other nonprofit organizations.
